New Lecture Series
In an effort to promote the Wisconsin Idea, The UW-Madison Philosophy department is sponsoring a new lecture series entitled "UW Philosophers Tackle Contemporary Issues." The inaugural lecture was given by Herbert A. Simon and Hilldale Professor Dan Hausman, and the video can be found here. Find more information on the series here.

Check out Philosophy TV, an increasingly popular website developed by our grad students John Basl, David Killoren, Jonathan Lang, and Brynn Welch. The site broadcasts accessible dialogues by prominent thinkers on a wide variety of philosophical topics.

Congratulations Elliott
Congratulations to Elliot Sober, who was recently elected President of the Division of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science at the Division's General Assembly meeting in Nancy, France. Elliott will hold the post for four years. Past presidents have included many of the most illustrious names in the philosophy of science. Congratulations to Elliott!

New Endowed Chair
We are thrilled to announce that the department is the recipient of a $2.5 million bequest from the Mellon Foundation to endow a chair in Ancient Greek philosophy. These funds will be used to fund our open Plato position. This bequest is part of a larger gift made to UW by the Mellon Foundation, targeted to bolster our strength in the humanities. Congratulations Dan
Congratulations to Dan Hausman, who has just been named a Hilldale Professor. This award is among the most prestigious forms of recognition that UW–Madison extends to its faculty. The Hilldale professorship is designed to recognize scholars who have not only made world-class contributions to their fields of expertise, but who promise to continue to do so for the next many years. Congratulations to Dan on this very well-deserved award!
