Here are the results of our first index-card survey. There were a total of 48
responses tallied. They indicated that 25% of you intend to attend the 9:55
Friday section, 35% the 12:05 Friday section and 40% the 9:55 Monday section.
This should create plenty of opportunity for class participation in the Friday
9:55.
Of those who plan to attend the Friday 9:55 section,
38% would like my top teaching priority to be to relate the material to
philosophy,
33% would like it to be to make sure everyone understands the material well
enough to pass,
25% would like it to be to show you how to excel in logic,
17% would like it to be to bring in extra material to keep things interesting,
and
13% would like it to be LSAT preparation.
(due to multiple votes, this adds up to more than 100%)
Of those who plan to attend the Friday 12:05 section,
38% would like my top teaching priority to be to make sure everyone understands
the material well enough to pass,

What this means is that in all three sections, at least for the first part of
the semester, I will prioritize making the grade over achieving broad advanced
understanding, focusing specifically on the limited range of questions Prof.
Rauti likes to put on exams and homework. Students in all three sections should
feel free to ask questions about anything they don't understand about this
material, because each section contains a large portion who want such questions
to guide the discussion. It also means that I will occasionally discuss
philosophy in the Friday morning sections and LSAT puzzles in the Friday
afternoon section, but will not distract the Monday section with such extra
material. I will, of course, be happy to discuss extra stuff outside of sections
and will post extra stuff on our website that you can look at outside of
section.
