Threshold
A Sci-Fi Musical by Chris Lang
To unlock the secrets of human intelligence, scientists raise a boy from birth in a controlled environment. The young man believes that the rest of humanity was destroyed in a nuclear war and that residual radiation makes survival impossible beyond his artificial environment. His only companions are a family of cloned Neanderthals and a talking computer...until, that is, he becomes suicidal!

Threshold attempts to define "humanity" viscerally and allegorically. It likewise examines the experience of becoming (more) self-aware. The music incorporates primitive chanting/drumming with electronic music/audio effects. The action takes place in one continuous scene which the audience views as though through one-way glass.

   Life(Opening)
In the morning light,
    look around,
And listen to the early morning sound.
It's the sound of life,
    looking around,
And, all at once, their hearts begin to pound.

   Desire
A man cannot deny gravity.
Oh, he can fight it,
and he can place himself far from it,
But it is there,
   none the less.
He is a man...
