Professor Meehan’s research focuses on topics in philosophy of physics, philosophy of probability, formal epistemology, and philosophy of science. Some of his ongoing research threads include (i) the foundations of probability, especially the axiomatization of conditional probability, (ii) the foundations of quantum mechanics, especially epistemological issues raised by the statistical and information-theoretic tools of the “second quantum revolution”, (iii) the normative status of Bayesianism and Bayesian updating, and (iv) the role of chances in science and the relation of chances to natural laws.
